Xylouris White

Xylouris White is Georgios Xylouris on Cretan laouto (lute) and vocals with Jim White on drums. This is a culmination of three decades of friendship forged through music and place.

Jim White is a legendary drummer and composer from Melbourne, Australia who has been active for more than 30 years. He is a founding member of the group Dirty Three and has collaborated with luminaries such as Will Oldham, Cat Power, Bill Callahan and PJ Harvey who has described White’s unique playing style as “mesmerizing… like a voice, or a dancer, or a painter”.

George Xylouris is Cretan-Australian composer, singer and lute player who has been playing professionally since the age of 12. He is one of the best-loved artists in Greece, part of a famous musical family including his father the singer and lyra player Psarantonis, a man beloved by everyone from ethnomusicologists to Nick Cave, and his late uncle Nikos Xylouris, a singer and lyre player who became a symbol of the protest movement that brought down the Greek military junta in 1973.

Xylouris White’s albums are produced by Guy Picciotto (Fugazi) and have been released on Fat Possum’s Other Music Recording Co., Bella Union, and Drag City.
