Elton John vs Pnau 'Good Morning to the Night'

Elton John has joined forces with Australian electronic duo Pnau to release ‘Good Morning to the Night’ – an album that boldly re-imagines songs from Elton’s early back catalogue in glorious electronic technicolour.

Pnau (Peter Mayes and Nick Littlemore ) are also known for their project Empire of the Sun (with Luke Steele), but it was their third self-titled studio album as Pnau that caught the attention of Elton John, who has championed the band ever since. His role, the band agree, feels more like a mentorship. “To have had Elton’s support has been incredible,” Nick explains.

‘Good Morning to the Night’ is much more than a straightforward remix album, as the duo have completely re-interpreted some classic Elton tracks, adding loops, samples and their own material – and drawing on as many as six songs to create one new track.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Elton John said of the project, “There have been several attempts to remix my music before but I've never felt as excited as I do about the finished product as I do about these tracks."

Q Magazine described ‘Good Morning to the Night’ as, “a truly remarkable record, one that will repay your deep and repeated listening tenfold.”

Both the album ‘Good Morning to the Night’ and the single ‘Sad’ are released Monday 16th July 2012.
