Loney Dear

Loney dear is the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen's idiosyncratic musical project where classic song-writing meets complex productions – both wide open and uplifting as well as sensitive and heart breaking…

Loney dear is currently signed to Peter Gabriel's label Real World Records and Gabriel himself named him "Europe’s answer to Brian Wilson." The Sunday Times described him as "one of the most uplifting, inspiring and healing voices you’ll ever hear."

In the early 2000s, in his Stockholm apartment studio, Svanängen made a name for himself by creating homemade CDrs with a minidisk microphone and a home computer, self-releasing albums which by 2007 caught the attention of Sub Pop where Loney Noir was released. It was proceeded by Dear John and Hall Music and all three were released by Parlophone in the UK. Rave reviews followed in The Guardian, BBC, Drowned in Sound, Pitchfork and the Line of Best Fit went as far as calling him a "brilliant genius."

After his international break through, followed by a massive amount of touring, Emil took a step back to reflect on where and who he wanted to be as an artist. He decided to let curiosity be his sole guiding star in his music.
"I have learned how relaxed I can allow myself to be in my creative space. Now I try to let laziness rule my writing."

2017 saw the release of his self-titled album 'Loney dear' on Real World Records and again Loney dear received praise from the press. Since then, live concerts have become his main focus and he has found different and unique ways to perform them: Completely solo, with trios, with chamber orchestras as well as with full symphony orchestras.

These many variations of concerts have spurred Emil's creativity in writing and we can look forward to new music from Loney Dear this year.
