New website launched to honour the legacy of Irving Berlin

The family of Irving Berlin, in conjunction with his publishers Concord Music (North America) and Universal Music Publishing Group (rest of World), today announced the launch of a new website to honour the seminal musician in celebration of his 130th birthday. Created to pay tribute to Irving Berlin’s life and legendary works, this is the first time a dedicated digital resource has existed online for the man epitomized by Jerome Kern's famous maxim: "Irving Berlin has no place in American music - he is American music."

Universal Music Publishing Group and Disney Music Group expand relationship

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), and Disney Music Publishing (DMP), the music publishing arm of The Disney Music Group (DMG), today announced a new agreement that expands the territories in which UMPG will administer DMP’s catalogues to include the United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe, as well as Israel and countries in Africa and the Caribbean.  

‘Fairytale of New York’ 30th anniversary

Today marks 30 years since the original release of The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl’s classic Christmas song ‘Fairytale of New York’. Since its original release in the eighties 'Fairytale of New York' has become one of the most loved Christmas pop songs of all time and has made an appearance in the Top 20 every year since 2005. It has sold over a million copies, is the most played Christmas song of the century (PPL, 2011) and frequently tops polls for people’s favourite Christmas songs of all time.

At the second Music Business Worldwide awards held last night, Universal Music Publishing Group artists and team took home four awards. Caroline Elleray was honoured with the Sir George Martin award, Steve Mac took home 'Songwriter of the Year' and 'Producer of the Year' while the company as a whole won 'Publisher of the Year.'
