Half Moon Run release their debut album ‘Dark Eyes’ today.
The band comprises of Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dylan Phillips and Isaac Symonds. Coming together in Montreal, they’re all deft multi-instrumentalists who utilise their interlaced vocal harmonies to powerful effect on their debut, crafting songs which manage to be complex, fascinating, expansive, meandering, ambitious and anthemic all at once.
The band have been making waves in the UK, with their song ‘Call Me in the Afternoon’ selected as DJ Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World’ in May and the album being well received in the music press. The Guardian award ‘Dark Eyes’ 4 stars, declaring it a “fine debut” before concluding “what a find.” Clash Music (8/10) also heap praise on the album, suggesting that Half Moon Run are “one of those ridiculously accomplished bands for whom making stirring, clever songs is a walk in the park”, whilst NME note that “it's the quality of the songs that makes the album stand out."
