For over a decade, Lefties Soul Collection has been one of Europe’s most energetic garage funk & soul bands. Based in Amsterdam, the band has played all over Europe and released three albums: Hutspot (2006), Skimming the Scum (2007) and One Punch Pete (2011). They also released several – by now collectable – vinyl singles.
Lefties Soul Connection has given new meaning to raw funk & soul. Their sound is heavily influenced by The Meters, but also by obscure funk & soul bands from the 60’s and early 70’s, with a pinch of mod, 60’s garage, breakbeat and hip-hop added to the mix. Among their influences are hip-hop acts like Jurassic 5, The Roots and Beastie Boys, but also James Brown and Booker T and the MG’s.
Both on recording and live on stage, they are famous for creating the heaviest fatback break beats, gut-punching bass lines, gritty guitars and screaming Hammond organ sounds. Their music revolves around groove and most of their recordings are instrumental. However, their latest album One Punch Pete features three guest vocalists: gospel/soul singer Michelle David (originally from New York), multi-talented German singer Flo Mega and Corrina Greyson, a blues singer from London. On tour, Lefties Soul Connection is joined by Michelle David.
According to Volkskrant, one of the major Dutch newspapers, “Lefties Soul Connection has developed rapidly into the best and coolest funk band, and even one of the best rock bands of the Netherlands.”
