Irving Berlin

With a life that spanned more than 100 years and a catalogue that boasted over 1000 songs, Irving Berlin epitomised Jerome Kern's famous maxim that "Irving Berlin has no place in American music - he is American music."

A prolific music and lyric writer of the highest order, Irving Berlin's work is truly inspirational. He penned scores to over a dozen broadway musicals (including 'Annie Get Your Gun') plus dozens of Hollywood movies. Classics include 'White Christmas', 'Puttin' on the Ritz' 'Always' 'Blue Skies' 'Cheek to Cheek' and 'There's No Business Like Show Business'.

Recordings of these timeless songs range from the Ella Fitzgerald classics to Mercury Rev to Lady Gaga. They have featured on our screens since the inception of television, from the original Hollywood films to 'Titanic', 'Green Mile', 'Home Alone', 'Downtown Abbey' and now as part of Michelle Williams' stunning performance in 'My Week With Marilyn'.
