Guy Sebastian

"I still can't believe that one of the most personal albums I have released has resonated with so many people," Guy Sebastian marvels of his ninth record 'T.R.U.T.H', which rocketed to the top of the ARIA Albums Chart this year to become his third #1 record. Across Guy's 17 years in the music business, he has scored ten out of ten Top 10 studio album releases (including 2010's aptly titled ‘Twenty Ten’ greatest hits collection).

The only Australian male to boast six #1 singles and three #1 albums in ARIA chart history, Sebastian is undeniably one of this country's most successful and enduring artists of all time. As the first-ever Australian contestant at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, which attracted 200 million viewers, Sebastian finished in fifth place. Guy has shifted well over 7 million combined units worldwide, has 723 million streams world-wide while attaining 42 Platinum certifications since he first exploded through our TV sets and into our hearts as winner of the inaugural season of 'Australian Idol' back in 2003.

Sebastian is the first to admit that a song choice can change the course of an artist's life, acknowledging that his rendition of 'Climb Every Mountain' (which Guy includes in his setlists to this day) was the 'touchdown moment' that sealed his fate. Guy's chart-topping 'Australian Idol' "winners' single" 'Angels Brought Me Here', the highest-selling single in 2003, still holds the record for fastest-selling single in ARIA chart history. In 2010, it was named the highest-selling song of the previous decade.

Now a coach/mentor on 'The Voice', Sebastian's artistic journey has come full circle. After a long stint on 'The X Factor' judging panel, Guy joined 'The Voice' Season 8 coaching team and sat on one of the famous red chairs alongside fellow global superstars Kelly Rowland, Boy George and Delta Goodrem. This same awesome-foursome judging panel returned for Season 9 and Guy has also signed on as Coach for 'The Voice' Season 10 joining forces with Keith Urban, Rita Ora & Jessica Mauboy.

Sebastian joined an elite group of Australian artists who have achieved Platinum sales in the U.S. courtesy of 'Battle Scars' (2012), his global hit with Lupe Fiasco. This single topped the U.S. R&B/Hip Hop digital chart, peaked at #11 on the U.S. iTunes chart and saw the pair performing on 'The Late Show With David Letterman', 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon', 'Conan' and the 'Play It Forward' Grammy Foundation event in Los Angeles. Guy's most successful international single release thus far, 'Battle Scars' has been streamed over 226 million times worldwide with the song's accompanying film clip clocking almost 10 million YouTube views.

In Australia, 'Battle Scars' - which debuted at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart (where it remained for six consecutive weeks) - is certified 11x Platinum. 'Battle Scars' also topped the TMN Hot 100 airplay chart.

Guy's 3x Platinum-certified hit 'Choir' (2019) - which also topped the TMN Hot 100 airplay chart, knocking 'I Don't Care' by Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber from pole position (after a seven-week reign) and going on to hold the #1 spot for six weeks - is his most successful song at Australian radio to date (overtaking 2009's 4x Platinum, chart-topping smash hit 'Like It Like That', which held the peak spot for five weeks). Sebastian penned this career-defining single as a tribute to his former bandmate and friend who tragically lost his battle with mental health in 2018. "I wanted to write something that resonates with people who have experienced loss, but in a way that celebrates life and brings joy," he explains. This intensely personal song connected with listeners worldwide, attracting over 47 million streams and counting. 'Choir' peaked at #1 on the Australian iTunes charts and #7 on the ARIA Singles Chart, and Guy himself singles out 'Choir' as the most impactful song he's ever released: "I’ve never received so many messages about a song that I’ve written!"

Guy is the only male artist and only Aussie artist to have had four songs in the top 100 airplay charts for 2020, sharing that statistic with Dua Lipa.

While hosting the 2019 ARIA Awards ceremony, Sebastian also collected two trophies thanks to 'Choir' (Best Video and the prestigious Song Of The Year accolade). Following the announcement of 'Choir' as Song Of The Year, Sebastian performed his winning song - accompanied by the 30-member Mount Druitt Choir - to close out the 2019 ARIA Awards ceremony - what a moment!

It was actually back in November, 2018 that Sebastian opened this inspired new musical chapter with the release of 'Before I Go', the lead single and first taste of 'T.R.U.T.H.'. "It's almost like a prophetic omen or something, 'Before I Go', where I'm saying, 'Hey, no one can tell me that my time is over and no one can put that ceiling on what I can achieve - and what I can do - except for me'," Guy observes, before stressing, "I'LL decide when my time is over." And Sebastian's self-described, Platinum-certified "fight song" certainly struck a chord: 'Before I Go' held a spot in the Top 10 of the Australian Airplay chart for 15 weeks and was also a hit in Europe, topping the iTunes chart in the Netherlands (where this song also achieved Platinum status).

Written in L.A. a couple of nights after he wrote 'Choir', 'Let Me Drink' (featuring The HamilTones & Wale) - the third single to be lifted from 'T.R.U.T.H.' - was the #1 most added track to radio at the time of release. An upbeat, call-and-response celebration of a tune, 'Let Me Drink' takes Sebastian back to his roots. "I grew up singing and listening to and being involved in church music, 'cause it's just so soulful and so joyous. It just feels like we're at church and we're stomping and everyone's having a good time and drinking too much of the church wine," he laughs.

The second track from 'T.R.U.T.H.' that was written to shine a spotlight on depression and mental health issues, the Gold-certified 'Standing With You' was the fourth single to be lifted from Guy's ninth record and also went Top 10 in the ARIA Singles Chart. For this song, Guy drew inspiration from a "beautiful post" that his cousin - who has struggled with severe depression over the years - uploaded; bravely sharing his story in the hope that it would help others who might be battling with their own inner demons. The song also belongs to the family loss of his wife Jules’ brother a few days following their 2008 wedding.

The stunning, James Chappell-directed 'Standing With You' music video was awarded Best Video at the 2020 ARIA Awards, where Sebastian picked up his seventh ARIA. Of this song, Guy reflects, "It's probably one of the most poignant songs I've ever released and I am deeply humbled by the messages I have received from fans all over the world who have connected to the song."

After releasing this heartfelt ballad, Guy decided to mix it up. For single number five, he released the feel-good 'Love On Display' - a joyous celebration and reminder to openly express our feelings of love. The song has been another strong performer at Australian radio and has cemented another bonafide hit from T. R. U. T. H. and lead the way to the announcement of Sebastian’s November / December 2021 national Australian Arena tour by the same name which has become a hot ticket item for music lovers.

Guy's behind-the-scenes doco ‘Guy Sebastian - The Man The Music’ (initially released in June, 2020) intersperses footage from his extensive, sold-out national 'Ridin' With You' tour with interviews and candid footage documenting some of his career highlights. During this documentary, Guy's commitment to, and love for, his family - wife Jules, and sons Hudson and Archer - shines through.

Guy and Jules established The Sebastian Foundation in 2013 to collaborate with charities and organisations with a view to "providing a little bit of the warmth and benefit of family" where it might be missing through underprivilege, serious illness or domestic violence. This Foundation has a goal to support 10,000 kids through an in-school mental health program, which has been designed to promote acceptance and address everyday issues before they become problematic. The Sebastian Foundation's world class annual Carols From Parramatta fundraiser event features some of the countries top vocalists and musicians, and will be streamed online in 2020 and is supported by Disney+.

In recognition of his "significant service to the music industry and charitable initiatives", Sebastian was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours.

Guy has admitted that 2019 was his absolute favourite year of life to date, but when he was selected as one of the artists to perform at Firefight Australia - a fundraising concert for national bushfire relief - 2020 looked set to follow suit. Then COVID-19 struck. But Guy remained a beacon of positivity throughout the year, acknowledging that people rely on musicians in times of turmoil.

When COVID-19 pressed pause on all travelling and touring plans, Sebastian was afforded the time he needed to complete 'T.R.U.T.H.' in his Sydney home studio. Not only did this striking collection of songs connect with fans all over the world, Guy's music also became the guiding light we needed to get through each day while fighting the global pandemic.

Throughout his career, Sebastian has performed for Queen Elizabeth II, Pope Benedict XVI and Oprah Winfrey, and fans can look forward to experiencing the thrill of this extraordinary artist performing live when his national 'T.R.U.T.H.' tour hits Australian arenas in November, 2021.

As one of Australia's most successful singer/songwriter/producers, Sebastian's unwavering passion for music translates into consistently authentic, memorable performances. The golden thread that runs through each Guy Sebastian song is his ability to manifest very specific emotional moments using that God-given musical instrument: his voice. "As long as I've got a voice and as long as I've got songs to write, I'm gonna keep doing it," Guy promises. "For me, music is about purpose. If one of my songs has a positive impact on someone, I consider it successful."
