Chelsea Collins

Presiding over a world of her own design bursting with booming beats and her unparalleled lyricism, CHELSEA COLLINS reimagines pop as a thrilling, twisted fantasy. Streamed over 55 million times and acclaimed by Nylon as a “nonconformist pop singer with a vision,” the 22-year-old San Francisco-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist takes the reins musically and lyrically, sugarcoating raw thoughts in sweet melodies, nostalgic  guitar, gritty 808s, and her personal production. By doing so, the songstress delivers an otherworldly series of singles that are the product of what she likes to call “organized chaos,” taking creative control and expressing herself through her assembly of unconventional sounds that according to her, “you wouldn’t necessarily put together,” but clearly work as she continues to take the pop world by storm with her unique sound.

Chelsea became fascinated with musical theater at just three years old. Two years later, her parents lied about her age so she could join various local productions. As soon as she learned classical piano, Chelsea began writing songs and quickly developed a passion for storytelling. Inspired by the likes of Taylor Swift and Britney Spears, she also looked up to producers such as Max Martin and Kanye West.

“I almost feel like if there’s one thing that brings me closest to home in life, it’s songwriting. Home doesn't have to be a place - it’s a feeling, and the second I start to write, despite what is going on around me, I’m in my safe place. It’s so incredible that you can overcome hard moments by creating a song,” says Chelsea.

Although a songwriter at heart, the young artist is also an incredibly talented producer. After just a semester of high school, she convinced her parents to homeschool her so she could focus on music. During this time, the budding talent taught herself how to produce, opening up an endless palette of sounds before moving to Los Angeles. As a female producer, she takes pride in her ability to disrupt the societal norms that have previously discouraged women from getting behind the mixing desk in the first place, and wants other women to know that their dreams of being a producer is no where near out of reach.

“I just know how much I’ve found myself as a person and an artist through production. The biggest thing I’ve noticed when it comes to women who want to produce - it’s not that they can’t do it - it’s that those surrounding them convince them otherwise. I want to inspire every little girl out there to know that they can do it, because girls are iconic and should take over the world anyways. Also, as a little girl, I wish I knew that when life gave me lemons, being able to escape on my computer and make a cute little beat is the best serotonin booster.”

Catching the attention of HITCO Founder and C.E.O. L.A. Reid during a 2019 studio session,  she inked a deal with the label. She also signed with S2 for publishing, the company owned by  famed songwriter Savan Kotecha and Sonny Takhar. After introducing herself on “Tobacco and  Tears,” Chelsea sailed through 2020 with a plethora of singles, starting with “Used to be (L.O.V.E.),” accumulating over 25 million streams. She then released her single “07 Britney,” a searing singalong showcasing the scope of her signature single, popping off with its D.I.Y. video shot around Hollywood sonically driven by its breezy guitar and its skittering beat. Following was her infectious single “Water Run Dry'' featuring rapper, singer and fellow Bay Area native 24kGoldn, accompanied by a visual that gives us an inside glimpse into Chelsea’s mind filled with tales of a toxic love that somehow turns itself around. Her latest was a collaboration with Global Citizen, a track called “Higher Ground'' where she was joined by Grammy nominated R&B artist Andra Day.

Now, Chelsea is gearing up for the release of her forthcoming single “Hotel Bed” featuring hip-hop singer and songwriter Swae Lee. “Hotel Bed” is the lead single from her debut EP set to release early this summer. Together, the two have crafted a timeless, sentimental pop ballad that is sure to have listeners blaring it from their speakers as they imagine themselves driving down the Pacific Coast Highway. An intimate, melodic dialogue between the two casts the scene for a relationship gone awry, a personal anecdote from the songstress that was brought to life on her bedroom floor amidst regretful decisions while in an emotional frenzy.

“At the time, I was dating one of my good friends from back home. We fell in love, but I was living in LA and he was living in Utah, so we were doing long distance. I felt like he didn’t understand my passion for music as well as my struggles with depression, and it was starting to make me hate myself. I ended up coming home one day, crying, and breaking up with him without a reason other than little excuses. I still regret parts of it to this day - he truly was one of the only people I’ve met who saw me for the person I really am, the person I’m scared to show most people - and I think me ruining that relationship stemmed from me thinking that some things are too good to be true.”

“We all deal with anxiety and loneliness, and we all go through stuff,” she leaves off. “It makes us human. Lyrics are so  important to me. If I can tell a story, that’s the cherry on top of the production. I want my music  to be a safe place. When you listen to me, I hope you know you have a friend.”
