Adam Ant

One of the icons of the 1980s, Adam Ant has an enviable back catalogue of massive hits that spanned the globe. In 1977 Adam carved a unique niche for himself as leader and chief songwriter of Adam and The Ants. Their first record was the experimental, post punk influenced and literate ‘Dirk Wears White Sox’.

Success came when he asked Malcolm McLaren to manage the group and recruited a new line-up for two hugely successful albums: ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’ (1980) and ‘Prince Charming’ (1981). He was at the forefront of the New Romantic movement with massive hit singles like ‘Antmusic’ and the No. 1 ‘Stand and Deliver’. The term "Antmania" was coined due to their unprecedented success in the UK.

By 1982 Adam Ant had struck out on his own, with his debut solo single, the rock'n'roll ‘Goody Two Shoes’ giving him his third No 1. For over a decade from the mid 80s Adam Ant successfully switched between music projects and acting.

Dressed in his trademark highwayman / pirate persona Adam Ant has made an entertaining and thrilling return to the live circuit in recent years with his new band The Good the Mad and the Lovely Posse. He received the Q Magazine Music Icon Award in 2008. In January 2013 he released a new album ‘Adam Ant is the BlueBlack Hussar in Marrying the Gunners Daughter’.
