Ed Harcourt releases his sixth studio album ‘Back into the Woods’ today on CCCLX. Recorded in just six hours at the iconic Abbey Road studios, it’s an album rich in emotional intensity that takes a stripped down instrumental approach – letting Ed’s signature lyrical dexterity come to the fore.
Palma Violets release their hotly anticipated debut album ‘180’ today on Rough Trade Records. The London four-piece formed last year and up until recently have had minimum online presence and no songs recorded, instead preferring for people to come and experience their raucous live shows at their Lambeth studio 180. The album is named after this building, which also features on the cover.
Theme Park release their eponymous debut album today on Transgressive Records. Opening with the loose, beaty ‘Big Dream’ and including the sun-kissed 'Jamaica' and most recent single ‘Tonight’, the album aims to capture that rich period of life between school and the early twenties. It evokes far flung places and sunny days – although it was actually recorded in a small almost windowless studio in Hackney.
Post War years release their second album 'Galapagos' today – the follow up to 2009's 'The Greats and the Happenings'. 'Galapagos' builds on the rich and innovative melodies and irresistibly squelchy, electronic basslines found on the band's last two critically acclaimed EPs - ‘Glass House’ and ‘The Bell.
Artists signed to Universal Music Publishing won three BRITS at the Awards last night at the O2 Arena. Mumford & Sons won Best British Group whilst Adele won Best British Single for ‘Skyfall’. Coldplay collected the award for Best British Live Act.
Tegan and Sara release their seventh studio album ‘Heartthrob’ today. The new album bears all the hallmarks of a Tegan and Sara record – “terrific songs full of lust, longing and regret” – but according to Sara ‘Heartthrob’ has “a bigger, bolder, happier sound” than anything they have done before. The positive reviews have been pouring in, with NME calling ‘Heartthrob’ “a triumph” and “an early contender for pop record of 2013”.
Mumford & Sons picked up the coveted Album Of The Year award for their second album 'Babel' at last night’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Adele won her ninth Grammy, for Best Pop Solo performance for her live version of ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ performed at The Royal Albert Hall.
Universal Music Publishing is proud to announce the signing of an exclusive worldwide deal for the entire Billy Joel catalogue, including the hit songs ‘Uptown Girl’, ‘Tell Her About It’, ‘Just the Way You Are’ and 'We Didn’t Start the Fire’. Since having his first chart and sales success in the early 1970s, Billy Joel has remained one of the world's most popular artists.
Courteeners release their third studio album ‘Anna’ today on V2. It's been two years since the band's last album ‘Falcon’, which charted at No. 6 and followed their No. 4 debut ‘St. Jude’. “I realised that our first LP was very raw and ready,” explains frontman and lyricist Liam Fray, “while the second one had those big, slow numbers. For this one I felt we had to go back to that rawness, but with an electronic edge.”
