Multi-award-winning composer Yu-Peng Chen signs global exclusive publishing agreement with UMPG

The composer behind the global phenomenon Genshin Impact, whose music has generated over 1.5 billion streams worldwide

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), a leading global music publisher, today announced that it has signed a global exclusive publishing agreement with multi-award-winning composer, pianist and producer Yu-Peng Chen (陈致逸). Under the agreement, UMPG will represent Chen’s global catalog and future works, supporting the continued expansion of his music across concert repertoire, film, games and interactive media worldwide.

Widely recognised as the musical architect behind the global open-world role-playing game Genshin Impact, Chen has built a devoted international following for his richly melodic and stylistically versatile scores. His music has appeared in more than one million TikTok posts, generated over 126 million official YouTube views, and amassed more than 1.5 billion audio streams worldwide. In 2025, Chen also became the first Chinese composer to sign an exclusive agreement with Deutsche Grammophon, marking a significant milestone in his classical career.
Yu-Peng Chen said: “I’m excited to begin this new chapter with Universal Music Publishing Group. Throughout my career, I have sought to create music that connects different cultures and artistic worlds — from games and films to the concert stage. With UMPG’s global reach and strong commitment to supporting composers, I look forward to continuing to explore new artistic possibilities and sharing my music with audiences around the world.”

Natasha Baldwin, President of Global Classics, Jazz & Screen Universal Music Publishing Group and Universal Music Group, said: “Yu-Peng Chen represents an exciting new voice in global composition. His music has reached millions of listeners through the world of gaming, yet it is deeply rooted in the traditions of orchestral storytelling. At UMPG, we are passionate about supporting composers whose work crosses cultural and creative boundaries — from concert halls to screens and interactive worlds — and Yu-Peng is a powerful example of this new generation of globally resonant composers.”

Patricia Sun, Managing Director of Universal Music Publishing China, added: “Yu-Peng Chen is a visionary composer whose music resonates far beyond traditional genre boundaries. Through his works, the world gets a vivid understanding of the universal language music speaks and the transcendental humanistic spirit music conveys. Partnering with Yu-Peng marks a further advance for the composers’ global career and a more diverse profile of UMPG in the global music landscape.”

A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Chen is known for skilfully combining Western orchestral writing with musical traditions from across Asia, including Chinese, Japanese and Indian influences. His compositions range from subtle emotional textures to sweeping symphonic narratives, reflecting a distinctive voice that bridges cultures and genres. In recent years he has received a number of international recognitions, including first prize in the chamber music composition category of the 2025 4Seasons Vienna International Musician Competition, a 2025 World Artistry Music Award for Film/Game Music for Justice, and a Platinum Prize in the Composition Category at the Global Genius Music Awards.

Chen first established his career composing for film, television and video games, gaining worldwide recognition as composer and music producer for the global hit game Genshin Impact. His music has since been performed and recorded with leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. His orchestral album Fantasyland, recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, further established him as a distinctive contemporary voice in cross-cultural symphonic music. Now working as an independent composer, Chen continues to compose for major game titles including Justice and Where Winds Meet, while increasingly focusing on large-scale orchestral works.
