Bio
Gregory Porter is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He is deeply influenced by the soul music of Marvin Gaye and the jazz of Nat King Cole. In 2010, he released his debut album, Water, which received excellent reviews upon its release. In 2013, with his third album, Liquid Spirit, he cemented his success in the United States and Europe. Liquid Spirit even won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Building on this success, the singer took his time preparing a fourth album. Released under the same label in May 2016, Take Me to the Alley featured Lalah Hathaway and spawned the singles "Holding On" and "Don't Lose Your Steam." His next album, Nat "King" Cole & Me (2017), saw him cover a dozen classics once performed by the famous crooner to whom he pays tribute. His musicians, along with trumpeter Terence Blanchard on one track, accompanied the London Studio Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza. In January 2020, he made his highly anticipated return to the studio with his single "Revival." He also took the opportunity to announce the release of his sixth studio album, All Rise, which was released in August 2020. In 2024, he released the album Christmas Wish, from which the title track has accumulated over 7 million streams.
