Grammy-nominated songwriter and former RCA and DefJam recording artist Sterling Simms has been appointed Director of Creative, reporting to Ethiopia Habtemariam, UMPG President of Urban Music/Co-Head of Creative, and David Gray, UMPG EVP/Head of West Coast A&R. In his new position, Simms will work closely with the company’s worldwide A&R team to identify, sign and develop talent and bolster global creative opportunities for UMPG songwriters
For the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, UMPG songs were heard throughout the games and during the opening and closing ceremonies, two of the most-watched and highly rated global television events.
UMPG songwriter Sebastian Kole’s original song “Incredible” was chosen by Target as the soundtrack to their new back-to-school ad campaign. UMPG worked in collaboration with advertising agency Deutsch to pitch writers and demos for the opportunity, which ultimately went to Kole.
