UMPG UK appoints Julian Palmer as Senior Director A&R and Catalogue

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) today announced that Julian Palmer will be joining the team as Senior Director, A&R and Catalogue. In his new position, Julian will act as a bridge between the core and catalogue roster, whilst sharing his expertise and instincts with the wider team.

Julian brings a wealth of invaluable experience and relationships to his role at UMPG, having concluded 12 years at Columbia Records, where his successes included Katy B, Snakehips, Shift K3Y, MK and Rag N Bone Man.

Prior to joining Columbia, Julian's 25-year career included stints at Island Records CBS Records, Virgin Records America and more, where he worked with a diverse array of artists that included Run DMC, Stereo MC’s, Mica Paris, Tricky and Paul Weller, to name only a few.

Speaking on his new role at UMPG Julian said: “I’m honoured to be joining UMPG, and an A&R team that Pete Simmons has built with an abundance of elite experience, and vibrant youthfulness – and even more so now under David Gray with his understanding, love and knowledge of British music. I can’t wait to get started.”

Pete Simmons said: “Julian is somebody I’ve admired from a distance since I joined UMPG, and I am so excited to get to finally have the chance to work with him. Not only hear his stories from his remarkable career so far, but most importantly, to be a part of some more. Julian is a true A&R, a mentor and one of the good guys, and we are very lucky to have him joining our team.”
