Universal Music Publishing Group today announced that multi-talented musician, engineer and producer Dakarai Forbes – better known as 6IXVI – has signed a global publishing deal.
6IXVI has been a key player behind the scenes for over ten years, championing the UK rap scene and working with some of the biggest names in the past, present and future of music.
On making the announcement, UMPG UK MD Mike McCormack said: “Thrilled to have 6IXVI join our roster at UMPG UK. He’s already the go-to mixer for British urban music post 'Shutdown' [Skepta] and 'Shut Up' [Stormzy] – but he also has a lot to offer as an artist and songwriter/producer”.
Surrounded by music growing up, 6IXVI’s foray into music was inevitable and, after entering the music industry via DJing, he moved to production, mastering the art of recording, mixing and mastering before taking the plunge as an artist in 2016. Finding himself free-styling whilst recording other artists, 6IXVI started dedicating his spare time to writing and recording himself, releasing his ‘One’ EP in 2017, followed by a string of singles leading up to his full-length mixtape ‘Chosen’ in 2018.
An integral presence during the formative period of Stormzy’s career, recording and mixing much of his early work, 6IXVI has also recorded/mixed tracks for Skepta, Giggs, Wiley, Krept & Konan, Nines and more.
In addition to working with huge names and driving his own career forward, 6IXVI has consistently championed young talent through his 6 Figure Music studio in North London. Recent success stories include Mazza, who co-wrote and produced Big Shaq’s ‘Mans Not Hot’ and DigDat & Loski ‘No Cap’, and Chris Andoh who scored a recent UK #1 with his co-write and production on Stormzy’s ‘Vossi Bop.’ He continues to work with undiscovered and developing talent such as C biz, Ambush, Berna, D’One and Corella.
With 6IXVI on a quest to find and develop even more fresh UK talent, a joint venture between 6 Figure Music Publishing has been announced alongside his own signing.
The future looks incredibly promising for 6IXVI and we’re honoured to be a part of it.
