Seinabo Sey has released her much anticipated debut album ‘Pretend’ on Sweden Music.
Since she burst onto the scene (and the top of the Hype machine charts) in 2013 with ‘Younger’ Seinabo Sey has been constantly refining her sound and winning over fans and critics worldwide with her strong soulful sound and emotionally honest lyrics.
In October 2014 she released the critically acclaimed EP ‘For Madeleine’ (named after her mother), which won her a Swedish Grammy Award for ‘Breakthrough of the Year’. Sold-out shows in both Europe and the US soon followed, including legendary festivals such as Roskilde and Glastonbury as well as performances on big TV shows including Conan O’Brien, Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, and Later… With Jools Holland.
Rolling Stone have described her as sounding like “Nina Simone and Play-era Moby forging millennial-era natural blues”, whilst Fader referenced both her emotional and vocal strength with the simple, “this woman has power”.
“This album is really all about my life. It's about everything that's happened to me” she explains. “I've been trying to finish a debut album since I was 19. It would have happened eventually, but I didn't think it would have turned out how I wanted it to turn out. I've learnt that you have to let things grow organically. It's been quite a journey.”
The title track ‘Pretend’ is featured in the FIFA 16 soundtrack, and current single ‘Poetic’ was recommend by Taylor Swift to her 50 million Instagram followers.
The album is written by UMPG Scandinavia’s Seinabo Sey, Magnus Lidehall, Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare and Oskar Linnros.
