Universal Music Publishing is delighted to welcome Danish singer songwriter Agnes Obel to UMPG.
Agnes’ debut album ‘Philharmonics’ was released in October 2010 on PIAS, becoming a quiet phenomenon and selling almost half a million copies. It received a gold award in Holland, platinum awards in Belgium and France, and went quintuple platinum in her native state of Denmark, where Agnes won five Danish Music Awards (the Danish Brits) in 2011.
Her second album ‘Aventine’ followed in 2013 – a beautiful and intriguingly unhurried record consisting mainly of piano, vocal (played and sung by Agnes) and cello. Speaking about the combination of the instruments and her voice on the record, she explains: “To me, sounds have always been more interesting than words. I love it when the voice becomes an instrument and you almost forget it’s a human voice.”
The Telegraph praises Agnes’ “deceptively simple songs around soft piano motifs and ghostly, multi-tracked vocals", whilst The Guardian call her “a master of her craft with a bright future ahead of her."
