Sebastian Yatra Acknowledged in Best New Artist Category
Alejandro Sanz Honored as Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year
MIAMI BEACH, November 10, 2017 -- Universal Music Publishing Group, a leading global music publisher, announced the company has publishing interest in songs that received 47 nominations across 28 categories for the 18th annual Latin Grammy Awards.
Mexico’s eight-time Latin Grammy winner Natalia Lafourcade received four nominations, the most among UMPG’s songwriters, including Album of the year for Musas.
For Song of the Year, several UMPG songwriters received nominations including Natalia Lafourcade, Miky La Sensa, Eli Palacios and Lars Pedersen.
18-time Latin Grammy and three-time Grammy-winner Alejandro Sanz has been named as this year’s Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. In an event preceding the Latin Grammys, he will be honored for his artistry and philanthropic contributions to organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children and Greenpeace.
Late icon Juan Gabriel is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Vestido de Etiqueta por Eduardo Magallanes, his 30th studio album released two weeks prior to his passing last year.
This year’s huge global hit, “Despacito (Remix),” is nominated for Best Urban/Fusion Performance, earning UMPG songwriter Justin Bieber a nomination.
J Balvin received two nominations including Best Urban Song for “Hey Ma.” Fellow Colombian labelmate Sebastian Yatra was also nominated twice, including for Best New Artist. Alex Cuba is again nominated for Best Singer/Songwriter Album for Lo Unico Constante, a category he won in 2015.
Brazilian duo AnaVitória also earned two nods with their self-titled debut album, including Best Portuguese Language Song for “Trevo (Tu).”
UMPG writers received several nominations in additional song categories such as Best Tropical Song and Best Regional Song.
The 18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held Thursday, November 16 at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas and broadcast on Univision.
