Songs by Joy Division, Eurythmics, R.E.M & more accompany a journey back to the 80s in the soundtrack for the acclaimed new Channel 4 series.
Set in 1980s London, the new Russell T Davies’ drama follows a group of friends in the midst of the AIDS crisis – and the queer community’s resilience throughout. Naturally, their love of music and dancing plays a crucial role, resulting in a soundtrack bolstered with 80s hits.
Barry Manilow’s ‘One Voice’ features in a karaoke scene, while Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’ acts as a powerful accompaniment to a poignant scene.
Other highlights from UMPG writers include Joy Division (‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’), Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn (‘Mickey’), and Sylvester & Patrick Cowley’s ‘Do You Wanna Funk?’, which also features in the trailer.
The series also stars UMPG writer Olly Alexander (Years & Years) in a leading role.
