'I Will Survive' backs Ovarian Cancer Action campaign

The powerful new campaign by the Ovarian Cancer Action Charity features an emotional take on Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 hit, written by UMPG songwriters Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris.

Perren and Fekaris’ lyrics take on a new lease of life in the campaign, which sees a collective of young girls deliver a spoken word version of the song, before a new arrangement of the song, with vocals by Birdy, takes over. The result is what UMPG’s Tom Foster refers to as a “creative and impactful” use of Perren and Fekaris’ songwriting. In an article in Music Week Native’s Dan Neale said: “Suzanne Carey at Universal went out of her way to push it through and we’re extremely grateful to UMPG.”

Speaking of the ad, Ovarian Cancer Action CEO, Cary Wakefield called it: “a powerful call-to-arms on behalf of women, because the current situation is just not good enough.”
