UMPG SAMPLE CLEARANCE
Sampling is the interpolation of a pre-existing composition within a newly created composition by means of either replayed/resung elements, or digitally sampled elements of an existing recording. UMPG's Sample Clearance departments protect our writers and copyrights by negotiating agreements for the sampled use of our compositions upon terms and conditions that reflect the value of the copyright in the pre-existing composition. UMPG also seeks to protect copyrights from any unauthorized uses or from any uses that we (or the author) might deem inappropriate .
Our sample clearance staff in the U.S., London and in other foreign territories work closely with sample clearance companies, record companies, producers, writers, attorneys and managers to negotiate sample requests. Our staff makes every attempt to clear a sample as quickly as possible and works closely with our sampled writers to advise them of the benefit of having their work sampled.
HOW TO CLEAR A SAMPLE
We strongly recommend submitting requests at least five months before release. To clear a sample:
(a) Download the Sample Clearance Request Form at the top of this page;
(b) Fill the form out completely;
(c) Forward the fully-completed request form, along with a CD or Tape copy of the sampled song and the new song (Required), and a copy of the lyric sheet to:
