UMP sign the Irving Berlin catalogue
Irving Berlin was one of the greatest American composers and songwriters of the last century, with over 1,200 songs and a host of Broadway musicals and Hollywood films to his name. Decades later his songs remain as relevant now as they ever were.
Universal Music Publishing now represent worldwide (excluding USA/ Canada) the catalogue of Irving Berlin – a figure who was without a doubt one of the last century's greatest composers and songwriters, creating over 1,200 songs across a 60 year career. His influence was such that composer Jerome Kern famously said of the self taught musical legend; "Irving Berlin has no place in American music - he is American music."
His musical talents extended to both Broadway and the silver screen – with musical scores including the phenomenally successful 'Annie Get Your Gun', and movie credits such as 'Top Hat', 'White Christmas' and 'There's No Business Like Show Business'.
Recordings of these timeless songs range from the Ella Fitzgerald classics to Mercury Rev to Lady Gaga, and have featured on our screens since the inception of television, and still continue to do so today, in films such as 'Titanic', 'Green Mile', 'Home Alone', and most recently as part of Michelle Williams' stunning performance in 'My Week With Marilyn'.
