Bio

Marisa Monte is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and music producer, widely regarded as one of the leading voices of contemporary Brazilian popular music.

She showed an early interest in music, studying singing, piano, and drums, and later pursued classical vocal training in Italy before launching her professional career in Brazil. Marisa gained national recognition in 1989 with her debut album MM, driven by the hit “Bem Que Se Quis.” She solidified her success in the 1990s with acclaimed albums such as Mais (1991) and Verde, Anil, Amarelo, Cor-de-Rosa e Carvão (1994), which featured some of the most enduring songs in MPB.

In 2000, she released Memórias, Crônicas e Declarações de Amor, her most commercially successful album, including the hit “Amor I Love You.” She also co-founded the group Tribalistas with Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown, achieving major success in Brazil and internationally with songs like “Já Sei Namorar” and “Velha Infância.”

Her most recent studio album, Portas (2021), marked a significant return after a decade without solo releases. The project features a contemporary yet intimate sound, blending MPB, samba, and pop influences, and includes tracks such as “Calma” and “Pra Melhorar,” reflecting themes of resilience, renewal, and emotional connection in a changing world.

Throughout her career, Marisa Monte has sold millions of records, received multiple awards — including Latin Grammys — and is known for her refined musical style.
