Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), a leading global music publisher, today announced the signing of buzzing global talent The Marías to an exclusive, worldwide music publishing agreement. Known for their dreamy fusion of alternative, psychedelic rock, jazz and Latin, the Latin GRAMMY-nominated band is comprised of Atlanta-raised María Zardoya, Los Angeles native Josh Conway, Jesse Perlman on guitar and Edward James on keys.
With more than two billion streams to date, two critically acclaimed albums, ‘CINEMA’ and ‘Submarine,’ and a Top 20 single on the Billboard Top 200, The Marías are an undeniable force. This year, the band celebrated multiple breakthrough hits alongside the release of “Back To Me,” and “Nobody New,” two 2025 MTV VMA nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative “Back To Me,” as well as six songs charting on the Spotify Global 200.
Most recently, María Zardoya released her debut solo album under the moniker Not for Radio entitled ‘Melt’ which Vogue called “Lush, Moody, a Little Dark—and Utterly Her Own.” Filled with intimate, psychedelic ballads, the album blends gothic romanticism and baroque pop with digital textures - from the lush ‘60s echoes of “My Turn” to the haunting synthscapes of “Swan” and the dreamlike confession of “Not the Only One.”
Beyond their own records, The Marías have also collaborated with a number of superstars. The band has co-written, produced, recorded and performed with Bad Bunny on his GRAMMY-nominated album Un Verano Sin Ti, Selena Gomez & benny blanco on hit single “Ojos Tristes,” and toured with Billie Eilish on her sold-out arena run.
In signing, María Zardoya said: “We’re thrilled to sign with Jen and Ana Rosa at Universal Music Publishing. Having spent some time with them alongside Jody Gerson, we trust they’re the perfect partners to guide us through the next phase of our collective and individual writing career(s).”
UMPG’s Jennifer Knoepfle, Executive Vice President and Head of U.S., and Ana Rosa Santiago, Senior Vice President Latin Music, said, “It’s so exciting to work with a band like The Marías who are so clear and singular in their vision. They have cultivated a devoted audience over the last several years and are now on the cusp of the global stage. We could not be more ecstatic to partner with them at such an exciting time.”
The band’s transcendent live shows have resulted in a sold-out global tour, including standout sets at festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza.
