UMPG Australia Signs Ruel To Global Publishing Deal
Universal Music Publishing Australia has signed a global publishing deal with emerging young new artist Ruel.
The news comes with last weeks debut solo release of single ‘Don’t Tell Me’, a soulful take on modern pop that was first penned when Ruel was just 12 years old, together with Grammy winning producer M-Phazes and Australian elite songwriter Thief.
Currently featured on M-Phazes’ hit ‘Golden Years’, Ruel made his first live radio debut earlier this year with M-Phazes on Triple J’s ‘Like a Version’, making history as the youngest-ever performer on the show at only 14 years of age. Backed up by some of Australia’s top musicians, the two performed both ‘Golden Years’ and a haunting cover of Jack Garratt’s ‘Weathered’, which gathered half a million views in less than 48 hours.
“This is a very special signing for us. It’s an honour not only to welcome Ruel into our family, but to feel warmly welcomed into his. Ruel is an incredibly talented young writer and artist with a long and successful career ahead of him. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the team that will help him achieve those, what we believe to be, inevitable goals on a world stage.” said Arwen Curson, Vice President of Creative, UMPG Australia and New Zealand.
“I’ve known Ruel for a few years now and it’s been incredible watching him grow as a performer as well an excellent songwriter; skills that will only keep developing and we’re thrilled to be a part of that journey!” added Nora Wever, A&R Manager, UMPG Australia.
Having already supported Gallant around Australia’s iconic venues including Metro Theatre in Sydney and Corner Hotel in Melbourne, Ruel is set to support Australian music royalty Angus and Julia Stone on their sold out national tour in September.
“So excited to be working with the Universal Music Publishing team and can’t wait to keep writing more music with new people!” Ruel said of the signing.
“I'm pleased to see Ruel partnering with UMPG in these crucially formative years and I'm looking forward to working closely with the team to create new and exciting opportunities for him moving forward. There's still plenty of hard work and development ahead for him, so it's reassuring to know he now has extended family across the globe working hard to see Ruel reach his full potential as a songwriter and artist.” added Nate Flagrant, manager of Ruel.
Ruel joins a UMP Australia roster that includes Alex The Astronaut, Bag Raiders, Cloves, Cosmo’s Midnight, Gang of Youths, Guy Sebastian, Holy Holy, Jonti, JOY., Maribelle, M-Phazes, Olympia, Peking Duk, Thief, Vera Blue, Woodes and many more.
