Universal Music Publishing Australia is very excited to welcome Alex The Astronaut to the UMPG family through a Global Publishing deal. The announcement was made this week the by President of Universal Music Publishing AU/NZ Andrew Jenkins and Vice President Arwen Curson.
In making the announcement, Curson stated "Alex is one of those few, special people who can tell stories so effortlessly that they take you on a journey into their world and make you want to stick around to find out what happens next. Her music genuinely makes me feel happy, in a childlike, wide-eyed wondrous way, and I’m excited for the rest of the world to feel the same.”
As an artist, Alex strives to tell stories with a quirky twist; "...my rockstar uncle taught me Space Oddity when I was 12 and it taught me that oddness is great and that maybe, a space obsessed explorer has something important to share". Growing up in Sydney and currently living in New York, Alex is a multi-talented and extremely well-rounded individual, currently finishing off her Maths and Physics University degree whilst on a Football Scholarship.
Alex is equally elated to be joining the UMPG roster, when talking about the decision she stated that "…as a young songwriter it’s scary putting songs out sometimes because you aren’t sure whether anyone will understand what you’re trying to say. Speaking to the team at Universal and seeing how welcoming and awesome they’ve been I know they understand and I can’t believe how lucky I am to get to work with them! It really is a dream come true and I can’t wait to show everyone the songs we’ve been working on!"
The entire team at UMPG Australia is absolutely thrilled to be working with such a talented and fascinating individual who has such an exciting journey ahead.
