Universal Music Publishing (UMP) is pleased to announce the signing of a joint venture agreement with one of Australia’s most exciting new music publishing companies, Nite High Publishing. As part of the partnership, global publishing deals with Wave Racer, Cosmo’s Midnight and Collarbones have been signed. Under this new deal future works with UMPG signing Jonti will also fall under the Nite High Publishing imprint.
Nite High Publishing is the brainchild of Astral People founders and creators of the iconic OutsideIn festival, Lee Danilewitz and Tom Huggett.
"We have long admired Lee and Tom's exceptional taste in new Australian music and also their entrepreneurial spirit. Collarbones, Cosmo's Midnight and Wave Racer are an incredible start to a boutique Nite High writer roster that will benefit immeasurably from UMP's creative ambition and global reach," said Heath Johns, Director of A&R, UMP Australia.
Signed by Australian taste maker record label Future Classic following his debut 'Rock U Tonite', 21 year old Sydneysider Wave Racer released a string of remixes for the likes of Flight Facilities, Ryan Hemsworth, Cosmo's Midnight and Panama - the last of which reaching over a million plays within its first month. As one of the most rotated artists on Triple J and a regular fixture on international stations BBC1 and KCRW, his sound picked up early attention from Diplo, Flume, Cyril Hahn, Madeon, Skrillex and many more. Wave Racer’s new single 'Streamers' and recent US performances (including notable appearances at SXSW) have only further solidified Wave Racer as one of Australia’s most promising new acts.
''It's really exciting to be working with people who believe in my music and support my creative process. Being able to work at my own pace is incredibly important to me,” said Thomas Purcell (also known as Wave Racer).
Representing unexplored territory not just within genres but between them, twin brother duo Cosmo’s Midnight look for cross points between low-end house, lushed out beat-work and electronic mystery attracting an array of fans worldwide. From their debut EP ‘Surge’ (released via Yes Please) alongside much-hyped remixes for Jaysways and support slots for the likes of international buzz acts XXYYXX, AlunaGeorge, Cashmere Cat and Tokimonsta, Cosmo’s Midnight’s success was amplified ten-fold with the release of ‘The Dofflin’ as it went on to become one of the most played songs on alternative radio in 2013. The subsequent double A-side single release Goodnight/Moshi achieved significant blog love and Soundcloud spins from across the globe. Currently working on follow-up releases, 2014 will be a defining year for Cosmo’s Midnight.
''Being able to have our music exposed to Universal Music Publishing’s amazing roster and potentially collaborate with acts we look up to is an amazing opportunity. Ultimately this deal with Universal Music Publishing and Nite High has put us in the position to collaborate on toplines, secure samples and score session time with a calibre of writer that would have been otherwise much harder to obtain," said Cosmo Liney of Cosmo’s Midnight.
Taking cues from a diverse range of influences from The Dream to Aphex Twin, Sydney’s Collarbones' distorted interpretations of RnB have earned them a growing cult fan-base. After releasing their debut LP 'Iconography', Collarbones have since released a follow up 'Die Young' (featuring the Triple-J rotated led single ‘Missing’), with both albums being nominated for ‘Album of the Year’ at tastemaker FBI’s SMAC Awards. Currently locked in their interstellar studio recording the follow up to Die Young, expect a big year from Collarbones in 2014.
''I'm looking forward to working with the team at Nite High and UMPG to foster some exciting opportunities not just locally but internationally. Expanding our pool of resources and taking over the world is very important to me,'' said Travis Cook of Collarbones.
