Universal Music Publishing Australia has signed Sydney-based artist and songwriter KLP (real name Kristy Lee Peters) to an exclusive, worldwide publishing agreement.
“KLP is young, prolific, ambitious and talented. Investing in and developing exceptional new talent is a major priority for Universal Music Publishing and we are incredibly excited to start helping Kristy and her songs gain traction in Australia and beyond,” said Heath Johns, Director of A&R.
In just 12 months Sydney-based DJ/producer/vocalist and songwriter KLP has amassed an impressive list of achievements. KLP hit #1 on Hype Machine with the What So Not (Flume and Emoh Instead) track ‘Jaguar’, was cited by inthemix as one of 10 local producers to watch in 2014, was selected to play the EMC Spotlight and was memorably crowned the Triple J Unearthed Field Day winner where she opened the festival with an attention grabbing set.
When not engaged in her own musical pursuits, Kristy Lee Peters is a facilitator with the ‘Heaps Decent’ initiative- an Australian based dynamic arts organisation working with young people and emerging artists from marginalised & disadvantaged communities.
KLP has also enjoyed solid alternative radio support with ‘Down South’ (featuring production from Perth’s Ta-Ku) and her new tune ‘Decide’.
"It's been a dream of mine ever since I was little, to live my life writing songs. To have Universal Music Publishing support me while I fulfill my crazy dreams is pretty damn awesome," said Kristy Lee Peters.
2014 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for KLP with a cross-continental songwriting trip in the works to coincide with her performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas and also the announcement that she has joined the roster of Sydney based artist management company Sum Management.
“That Kristy has the talent to not only sing but also produce, DJ and write at such a high standard (and simultaneously!) is a rare and wonderful thing and I’m looking forward to helping her realise those talents,” Jesse Flavell, Director- Sum Management.
