UMPG signs Brendan Maclean

Universal Music Publishing Group- Australia has signed the glittering, sparkling and fabulous Australian singer/songwriter Brendan Maclean to an exclusive, worldwide songwriting agreement.

“Brendan is a born performer, a stone cold star and a genuinely talented songwriter. He has unique stories to tell and he delivers them with an infectious enthusiasm that is impossible to ignore. We are truly excited about working with Brendan and helping him take his songs to the world” Said Heath Johns, Director of A&R.

A master of the literal biting lyric that sits on the tip of your tongue, crops up in conversation and is pasted across Facebook walls and Twitter profiles for weeks. His original songs, with their shamelessly flamboyant melodic lines, have worked their way from YouTube, to the Opera House and to the studio of acclaimed producer Paul Mac.

“The songs and sounds I make are by no means simple: pop that's more Lily Allen than Bieber or rock that's more Freddie Mercury than Powderfinger. So to have the belief and strength of Universal Publishing gives me the opportunity to take my sounds where they deserve to be, to kick bigger goals and go to those bold, grand places in my songwriting without compromise.” Said Brendan Maclean

Brendan’s live performance has been called "electric" by Triple J, with Drum Media saying Brendan "had the audience spellbound. Truly magical."

Brendan has supported Lanie Lane, Claire Bowditch and Kate Miller-Heidke and Darren Hayes of Savage Garden at The Enmore, Forum and Tivoli while Baz Luhrmann also called upon the multi-talented Sydney artist to play the role of Klipspringer in his blockbuster ’The Great Gatsby’ in scenes alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

A two time winner of Australia's National Youth Week Industry Award for Songwriting Brendan's latest release Stupid, produced by Paul Mac, was funded through a crowd-funding campaign which raised $21,000 in just three weeks. The song was pasted on the front page of BuzzFeed with the video-clip racking up over 130,000 views on YouTube, ended up on national American news with Perez Hilton telling Swedish popstar Robyn to "watch your back girl, you've got competition."

Brendan Maclean is currently supporting Kate Miller-Heidke on the Heavenly Sounds tour, performing at a range of dates at the Opera House for Vivid Live and can be seen as the crazed musician Klipspringer in The Great Gatsby.
