Universal Music Publishing Group have signed South London-born, Sydney based R&B singer/songwriter Marvin Priest to an exclusive, world-wide music publishing agreement.
“Marvin brings years of international experience to the table, he has music in his blood and he was born to write songs. We are incredibly pleased that Marvin has chosen to sign with UMPG and we look forward to many hits over the coming years” said Heath Johns, Director of A&R, Universal Music Publishing Group- Australia.
Marvin Priest burst onto the Australian scene in early 2011 when his debut single ‘Own This Club’ hit 2 x Platinum ARIA status and in the process became one of the most played songs on Australian radio. The follow-up ‘Take Me Away’ feat. Wynter Gordon was certified Gold and further solidified Marvin’s rising star at radio.
Marvin is currently bunkered down writing an album for release later in 2012 via Island Records. The success of ‘Own This Club’ has earned Marvin 2 nominations for the recently announced 2012 APRA Music Awards, picking up nods in the ‘Urban Work of the Year’ and the ‘Most Played Australian Work’ categories.
“I am thrilled to have joined the Universal family of writers. I am looking forward to working with the guys at UMPG on the material I write and perform and can’t wait to do plenty of writing for other artists” said Marvin Priest. Marvin received a musical education like no other- the son of Reggae superstar Maxi Priest, Marvin spent his formative years travelling the world and soaking up music from every corner of the globe. Marvin now calls Australia home, but international writing and performing opportunities continue to ensure that Marvin Priest remains a regular fixture at airports, studios and stages all over the map.
