Australian playwright Tim Conigrave’s best-selling 1995 emotional memoir Holding The Man has been adapted to the big screen and UMP has licensed five classic and era-specific tracks for the film.
Directed by Neil Armfield and screenplay by Tommy Murphy - the same screenwriter who shaped the award winning and critically acclaimed stage play - Conigrave’s 15 year long relationship with John Caleo through the 1980’s-90’s is portrayed at a time in Australia where the struggle for gay/lesbian rights and education on HIV/AIDS was prevalent.
Working closely with Goalpost Pictures, UMP’s tracks include Cocteau Twins’ “Frou-Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fire,” Rockmelons “Love’s Gonna Bring You Home,” Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” Supertramp’s “Dreamer, “and Pete Shelley’s “Homo Sapien,” all featuring throughout the film and providing the perfect soundtrack for this transitioning cultural period in Australia’s history.
The film stars a wealth of Australian actors including Anthony Lapaglia, Guy Pearce and Gina Riley alongside Ryan Corr and Craig Stott as the leads.
