Andre Harris & Vidal Davis

Biography

Andre Harris and Vidal Davis (known collectively as the production duo Dre & Vidal) have an uncanny instinct for producing thoughtful and expressive music. The duo's trademark recording style - adding live instrumentation over infectious rhythm sections - has helped to redefine and resurrect the old Philly soul sound, originally put on the musical map by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

In recent years, Grammy winning producers Dre & Vidal have helped to create the richly organic neo-soul scene in the City of Brotherly Love. World-class artists like The Roots, Jill Scott, Eve, and Jaguar Wright have made Philadelphia a hotbed for emerging young talent, and Dre & Vidal have undoubtedly been a part of this movement.

Andre and Vidal, met in a Philadelphia church when they were kids. The connection between Andre and Vidal was instant and inevitable - their bond formed by a shared passion for hip-hop and classic soul. As teenagers, Davis and Harris spent the bulk of their time at each other's homes, digging the Isley Brothers, Shuggie Otis and Herbie Hancock, and crafting songs in the basement. With no formal training, both fluidly played the drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. Barely out of high school, Harris and Davis caught the attention of DJ Jazzy Jeff and became a part of the production team at A Touch Of Jazz, producing cuts on Kenny Lattimore's critically acclaimed 1998 album From the Soul of Man.

In 2002, the duo left A Touch Of Jazz to work independently, honing their production skills on such hits as Michael Jackson's "Butterflies," and on Glenn Lewis' "Don't You Forget It." In recent years, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Jill Scott, Omarian, Carl Thomas, Bilal, Faith Evans, Mariah Carey, Floetry, 112, Macy Gray, Joe, Ronald Isley, Justin Timberlake, Donell Jones, Musiq, Darius Rucker, Will Smith, Ruben Studdard, and Beanie Sigel have employed the skills of Dre & Vidal, racking up millions of dollars in record sales. Their production skills can be heard on such hits as "Caught Up," the hit single on Usher's Grammy Winning album Confessions.

In 2005, the duo won a Grammy for their work on Alicia Keys' "The Diary of Alicia Keys" and won another Grammy for Usher's "Confessions". Dre & Vida's stellar work has also earned them several Grammy nominations, an ASCAP Songwriters award, and a Heroes Award from the Philadelphia NARAS Chapter.

In 2009, Dre and Vidal were the recipients of the Grammy award for Best Contemporary R&B Album; Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains". Most recently, Dre & Vidal composed two original tracks for EA's NBA Live 2010 and produced Usher's Grammy-nominated title song "Here I Stand". In addition, they are in the studio working on new material for an array of artists; Anjulie, Mario, Mishon, Rich Girl, 3OH!3, Amerie, Usher, Boyz Crew, AJ McClean, Migal, Chris Brown, The Game, Nas, Jill Scott, Dan Talevski, J. Holiday, CJ, BJ the Chicago Kid, John Forte', and Snoop Dogg.
