Biography
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alejandro began taking piano lessons when he was eight years old. His professional career started at age sixteen as a session player with some of the most important artists in Argentina. Highlight recordings of his early days include two albums with Raul Porchetto, two albums with Leon Giecco and albums with Soluna and Santaolalla which were produced by one of the biggest Latin rock producers of his time, Gustavo Santaolalla. Ale continued his studies of piano techniques with Antonio de Raco and jazz with Juan Carlos Cirigliano as well as harmony and orchestration at the Catholic University in Buenos Aires.
In 1982, Alejandro turned his attention to his developing career as an artist. Through the years, he has worked with some of the most important artists of Latin America as well as major artists in the United States. Among them are: Carole King, Paul Anka, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin, Gino Vanelli, Luis Miguel, Marc Anthony and many more.
Participating in the composers repertoire in Angouleme, France at Miles Copeland’s castle in 1998, Alejandro again broadened his focus as a composer and songwriter. He wrote the song CHILDREN OF 2000, which represented Argentina in “The Millennium Day” produced by the BBC of London, which he performed live as a duet with Mercedez Sosa on December 31, 1999 throughout the world.
Alejandro was the musical director and producer of the very successful UNICEF concert, “I Have A Dream" in Panama in October 2000 defending children's rights in Hispanic America. The lyrics of his song, CHILDREN OF 2000, were on the first page of the folders given to each of the Presidents attending the Panama summit.
Ale composed the song. THE POWER OF DREAMS, for Disney which will be recorded by Alejandro himself, Chayanne, Ricky Martin, Luis Miguel and Christina Aguilera, along with others. This Disney theme song will play on Disney Radio in Latin America and in Spain.
An award winning film composer, Ale’s compositions are the musical foundation for “Los Pasajeros del Jardin” and “Testigos en Cadena.” He has also written several songs for Latin American TV shows.
He has donated his time and talent to many different social groups in his country, among them several AIDS foundations; campaigns for returning land to the Indians; campaigns for food for the students of rural schools in Argentina; anti-piracy; supporting teachers and educators; and also for several anti-violence movements.
Ale released his 13th record, “Si Quieres Saber Quien Soy,” for Universal Records. It quickly sold more than 100,000 copies in Argentina. AMARTE ASI, the first single from the album is currently the main love theme in a Columbian soap opera. He has also released a live record that is still in the Top of the charts in Argentina, He has also been asked to produce the Soundtrack to Alfonzo Arau’s next film, Zapata. He continues writing with reknowned songwriters including: Stephanie Bentley, Troy Verges, Danny Orton, Luis Enrique and Rodolfo Castillo. He has current projects in the works for Disney Radio, Cher, Carole King, Luis Miguel, Cristian Castro, Jorge Calandrelli, Gino Vanelli and Mercedez Sosa.
In 2002 Lerner continues his success in the United States. Written and performed by Lerner, his song, “Hoy Es Adios” is the second single on Shaman (Arista), the new album by legendary artist Carlos Santana, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
