Biography
Nelson Rodriguez, aka El Boodah, was born on June 13, 1976. He was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, in a multicultural neighborhood in California. Growing up on the streets of Los Angeles was not easy due to devilish temptations such as drugs, alcohol and gang life. However, street life was not completely negative- this is where El Boodah discovered the beauty of hip-hop, break dancing and graffiti art. At the age of 15 he started writing his own lyrics, which were inspired by earlier artists such as Curtis Blow, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Rakim and the Beastie Boys.
Moreover, With the achievements made by Latino rappers in the past 10 years, such as Cypress Hill, Mellow Man Ace, Control Machete, Big Pun, Fat Joe, and The Beatnuts, El Boodah became motivated to write bilingual rap songs. El Boodah being of Mexican and Cuban descent, decided to combine the two.
Today, El Boodah’s Cuban influence comes off heavily in his delivery, but at the same time his Mexican side, plays a big role in who he is at this time, as an MC.
A host of new artists like Akwid, Don Dinero, Pitbull, are currently taking this new genre of Spanish rap to the next level and taking the music industry by storm. Fortunately for him, this has opened a non-existent door for El Boodah.
Consequently, it has unlocked this new urban regional movement wide open, and has taken the future of alternative Latin music in the U.S. and the rest of the world to new heights.
Under the label Guitian Brothers Music/Universal Music Latino, El Boodah has recorded his first CD and is slates to drop September 30th, 2004. The first single “Semana Mambo” combines a radio-friendly track with a catchy hook and well planned lyrics.
With his first self-titled debut LP, El Boodah has created a unique style of rap. Blending hip hop with regional and tropical style music, he has truly captivated, and captured the synergy created by mixing these genres together. There is absolutely no doubt that El Boodah will revolutionize Latin music by fusing two cultures and these music genres in a transcending way.
From the streets of Los Angeles to Miami, the journey for El Boodah begins November 9, 2004.
