Universal Music Publishing Group - Australia has led the charge at the 2009 APRA awards taking home three awards - the most of any publisher.
After a celebrated 15 year career, spanning 5 hit records and countless hit singles, The Living End frontman Chris Cheney has remarkably taken home his first ever APRA award, winning 'Song of the Year' for the instant Australian rock classic "White Noise."
'Song of the Year' is the showpiece award of the Annual APRA award ceremony and it represents the largest peer voted award in the nation. Over 30,000 APRA members vote on what they consider the most exceptionally crafted work of the year. A visibly impressed Cheney told the audience "I've never won an award like this, or even been nominated. So it's extra special."
Universal Music Publishing Group- Australia represents 100% of "White Noise" and all other Chris Cheney works for the world.
After leading the 2009 tally with three nominations, Sydney-based dance act The Potbelleez won their first ever APRA award for their international dance anthem "Don't Hold Back" in the 'Dance Work of the Year' category. Notably The Potbelleez competed against themselves in this category with the equally infectious "Are You With Me" also being nominated.
Folk/Country singer-songwriter Shane Nicholson also enjoyed his first ever APRA award win for the work "Rattlin' Bones" - co-penned with his wife Kasey Chambers in the 'Country Work of the Year' category.
