Universal Music Publishing Group Lands Music Administration Rights to GreeneStreet Films

New Deal with Independent Film Company Gives Publishing Giant Access to GreeneStreet Original Film Scores

Los Angeles, CA (Nov. 12, 2004) -- GreeneStreet Films and Universal Music Publishing Group announced today that they have signed a worldwide music publishing administration agreement.

Under the terms of the deal, Universal Music Publishing Group will be the exclusive administrator of GreeneStreet’s music publishing rights. The music in GreeneStreet Films currently covered by the agreement include the original scores to the hit 2002 Fox release swimfan, Fisher Steven’s Just a Kiss, released by Paramount Classics also in 2002, and to the critically acclaimed Miramax release Piñero, starring Benjamin Bratt. GreeneStreet Films and Raw Nerve releases will be covered under the deal.

“We are thrilled to begin this relationship with Universal Music Publishing Group and look forward to working with this well-respected leader in the music industry,” said GreeneStreet head of business affairs Vicki Cherkas. “In addition to helping GreeneStreet to maximize our revenue, we believe that Universal will find new and creative opportunities to license our music.”

Commented Scott James, Senior VP of Music for Motion Pictures and TV Worldwide, Universal Music Publishing Group: "We are very pleased that GreeneStreet, a creator of quality independent Film and Television productions, has entrusted Universal Music Publishing Group to handle their music administration needs. This continues our strategy of building UMPG as the worldwide leader in the administration of Film and TV copyrights."

Universal Music Publishing Group handles the administration of Film and TV copyrights for Universal Pictures, Universal TV Music LLC, Franchise Pictures, Beacon Communications Music, Shogakukan Productions, and in select territories: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Music, Inc, 20th Century Fox Film Music Co., Walt Disney Music Co., Orion Pictures Corporation, Paxson Merchandising and Licensing, and Scholastic Entertainment Incorporated.

Upcoming GreeneStreet Films include the co-financed (with the UK Film Council) Sally Potter (Orlando, Tango Lesson) film Yes, which received critical acclaim at the Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals and is screening as part of the London Film Festival later this month. The film stars three time Oscar nominee Joan Allen, Simon Abkarian and Sam Neill. The thriller Slow Burn, starring Ray Liotta, LL Cool J, Mekhi Pfeifer, Taye Diggs and Jolene Blalock, and the documentary Once In a Lifetime from Academy Award winning producer John Battsek (One Day In September) are both in post-production. Raw Nerve, the company co-founded by GreeneStreet and a group of filmmakers comprised of Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans, Uptown Girls), Eli Roth (Cabin Fever) and Scott Spiegel (Dusk Till Dawn 2), is currently completing 2001 Maniacs, a remake of the Herschell Gordon Lewis classic 2000 Maniacs, starring Robert Englund.

Independent music consultant and music supervisor Janice Ginsberg set up GreeneStreet Films’ music publishing arm and negotiated the deal on behalf of GreeneStreet in conjunction with Vicki Cherkas and Mary Lawless. Scott James, Tom Eaton, Michael Rexford and Robert Allen negotiated the deal on behalf of Universal Music Publishing Group.
