Frank Comstock, Composer of “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show” Theme, Passes Away at 90
Celebrated composer, arranger and conductor Frank Comstock
passed away on Tuesday, May 21st, at the age of 90. Throughout his long and successful career, Comstock wrote and arranged music for many popular films and television series, including “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show,” for which he composed the memorable title theme.
Comstock began his career arranging music for big band groups in the 1940s before shifting his focus to film and television. He worked extensively composing and arranging for Warner Brothers Pictures and Disney, among others, and he also partnered with Criterion Music Corporation founder Mickey Goldsen
to found Lode Music in the 1950s.
Through its acquisition of Criterion Music Corporation, UMPG now owns 50% of Lode Music and administers 100% of its catalog, which includes Comstock’s compositions for “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show.” A new animated movie based on characters from the Rocky & Bullwinkle series is planned for 2014 and will feature Comstock’s title theme.
